PeaceGold™* is an international movement for conflict resolution and sustainable peace in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (eDRC). Despite this historically complex and conflicted part of the world, eDRC is also a land of rich cultural, community and mineral wealth. Its people have inhabited this part of the world since pre-history and their stories of resilience, creativity and fortitude are a witness to the long slow arc of justice and peace. PeaceGold is a unique social enterprise that brings together artisanal small-scale mining (ASM) cooperatives and communities and the international ethical jewellery movement to forge that path of peace and prosperity for our community partners.
The jewellery membership is open to everyone who is connected to the jewellery profession and wishes to join in with being a part of the peace building story emerging in eDRC. PeaceGold’s goals are:
- delivering conflict free
- mercury free
- child labour free
- fully traceable, transparent and formalised supply chain for gold and other precious metals and gemstones.
The monetary value of these products will be returned to the ground, in country, to invest into conflict resolution, peace building and community development.
Our jewellery membership recognises that to achieve our goals we need to develop a deep and long-lasting relationship with the ethical jewellery movement.
